The Richmond Region - Initiatives

Creating a Proud, Unified Richmond Regional Community starts with a planned process to continually strengthen the fabric of the many smaller elements of the community. All of the citizens of the community must be involved in the process. In an effort to cover as many aspects of the Richmond Community as possible and to provide a variety of ways and means for Richmonders to get involved, Together We Stand has created 11 Regional Initiatives as the foundation for its plans to affect great progress and positive changes for the entire Richmond Regional Community.

Together We Stand Initiatives are designed to supplement and complement – not duplicate – the efforts of the many individuals, businesses, organizations and agencies currently working hard to strengthen the Richmond Regional Community, supporting their programs and services with volunteer hours and other available resources.

Buy Richmond Initiative
Maximize the economic growth and stability of the Richmond Region with a Campaign that calculates, promotes and affects the many economic and community building benefits that occur when Richmonders make their product and service purchases from vendors and businesses in the Region.

Citizens Against Crime Initiative
Engage and direct the citizens of the Richmond Region to stand together in a collective effort to reduce crime in the Region, particularly violent crime, and its effects on our lives and our society by committing to consistently strengthen the fabric of the Richmond Regional Community, and foster mutual respect and appreciation for Richmond’s cultural and ethnic diversity.

Community Gardens Initiative
Maximize community collaboration through a growing collection of Community Gardens throughout the Richmond Region, as well as Richmonds around the world, organized as the Richmond Community Garden Collective (RCGC). RCGC will enhance the social maturation of the Region through community collaboration; help establish a commitment of giving to, not taking from, our environment; AND, grow lots of food and flowers.

Community Service Database Initiative

Maximize access to information and services for all Richmonders through a public-private collaborative offering a current, objective, user-friendly, information source for the Richmond Region representing all entities (individuals, businesses, non-profits, faith-based orgs, government agencies, and all others) that offer services related to: Public Safety / Transportation / Job Training / Workforce Readiness / Education / Child Care / Housing / Social Services / Health and Fitness / Financial Management / Recreation / Government Assistance.

Community Transportation Initiative
Maximize the Transportation Capacity of the Richmond Region through well-managed community collaboration, matching available public and private transportation resources to our citizen’s transportation needs, supporting the development of our workforce and expanding the experiences and opportunities of all Richmonders.

Creative Arts Initiative
Unleashing the power of the creative arts and the creative spirit in all of the citizens of the Region, strengthening individuals, neighborhoods, schools, communities and the Richmond Regional Community.

East End Initiative
Significantly enhance the quality of life for the residents of the East End of Richmond, Henrico and Chesterfield, paying particular attention to the poor and underserved, by expanding awareness in the Richmond Region and beyond of the “community treasure chest” that is the East End – great people, unparalleled history, amazing parks and community spaces, spectacular architecture, incredible scenery, and the James River. The East End Initiative will utilize the many talents of the residents of the East End to create and execute a comprehensive community building and marketing campaign designed to benefit their community and the entire Richmond Regional Community.

James River Initiative
Branding the true icon of the Richmond Region, the James River, as the centerpiece of the process to create a regional identity while expanding awareness of the James River and its critical importance to the past, present and future of the Richmond Region.

Non Profit Capacity Building
Maximize the organizational capacity of Richmond’s Non-Profit Community and its collective ability to impact the Region through the development of a comprehensive Richmond Regional Non-Profit Strategic Plan, including the institution of stricter operational guidelines and enforcement for new non-profits, the enhancement of overall administrative efficiency, the elimination of service duplication, and significantly increased organizational collaboration and coordination.

Nurture the Heart - Support the City Initiative
Maximize the potential for the international connections created by Richmond Twinning and Richmonds of the World to create numerous educational, community building and economic benefits for the Richmond Regional Community.
